Fresno’s oldest high school, Fresno High, is getting a second gymnasium as well as other sports-related campus improvements.
The district will celebrate the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The high school is at 1839 N. Echo Ave.
The new gym, which will be built just north of the existing gym, will provide more space for sports events, student activities, and P.E. classes.
The School Board on April 24 awarded an $11,999,471 construction contract to Davis Moreno Construction Inc. Funding comes from the district’s Measure M, the local facilities bond measure approved by voters in 2020.

In addition to the 16,645-square-foot gym with team rooms, restrooms, and a snack bar, the project will include eight tennis courts and two half-court basketball courts, plus site and utility work. The project is expected to be completed by July 2025.
“This project will provide much-needed additional gym space for not only our athletes but our P.E. classes and a variety of student activities,” Interim Superintendent Misty Her said in a news release. “We are grateful for our community’s support for Measure M, which ensured the funding for the auxiliary gym and other improvements to Fresno High.”
