The National Weather Service in Hanford extended its upcoming Excessive Heat Warning for the central and southern San Joaquin Valley by a day on Monday afternoon.
The warning is now scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday and expire at 8 p.m. Friday.
A severe early-season heatwave will roast California, Arizona, and Nevada this week, breaking numerous heat records.
Excessive Heat Warnings/Watches are in effect for tens of millions, including Sacramento, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.

Afternoon high temperatures for Fresno and surrounding communities will range from 103 to 108 degrees, NWS predicts. In the Kern County desert, highs of 105 to 111 are expected.
NWS recommends that residents stay indoors where there is air conditioning, keep out of the sun, limit outdoor activities, and drink plenty of water to avoid heat-related issues.
The NWS forecast calls for afternoon highs of about 100 degrees Saturday through Monday.
Fresno Opens Cooling Centers
You can get refuge from the extreme heat at Cooling Centers throughout Fresno. According to a city news release, the centers will be be open noon to 8 p.m. beginning Wednesday until the Excessive Heat Warning expires.
The centers are at:
- Ted C Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo Ave.
- Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler Ave.
- Maxie L Parks Community Center, 1802 E. California Ave.
Those needing transportation may ride free on any FAX bus by telling the driver they want to go to the nearest Cooling Center.
