The Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) in Fresno is introducing Crowdsourced Cinema, a community-centered filmmaking initiative. This project aims to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to express their passion for movies through collaboration.

Crowdsourced Cinema will have residents work together to recreate an entire feature-length film. The chosen film for this project is the beloved 90s holiday classic “Home Alone,” recounting the humorous tale of Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old who defends his home from burglars after being left behind by his family.

How the Project Works

Upon signing up, participants will be randomly assigned a 1-3 minute scene from “Home Alone” along with a video clip and script for reference. They are then encouraged to reimagine their scenes, casting friends or family, creating homemade props and costumes, and infusing their unique style into each frame.

The deadline for recording, editing, and submitting scenes is Sept. 6, 2024. Participation is free, and residents of the Central San Joaquin Valley are eligible to join.

Once all scenes are submitted, CMAC’s team will combine them into a feature-length film. The film will premiere during the 2024 holiday season at a free public screening, with details on the exact date and location to be announced later.

To support participants along their creative journey, CMAC will provide workshops, technical assistance, and a dedicated online platform for idea sharing and collaboration.
