Many Americans who previously supported Israel’s military actions in Gaza in November now oppose the campaign, with 55% disapproving and 36% approving, according to a survey conducted March 1-20 by Gallup Poll.

74% of U.S. adults are closely monitoring news about the Israeli-Hamas situation, according to Gallup Poll.

In November 2023, approval was recorded at 50% and 45% disapproving.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has lasted more than five months, has resulted in significant casualties and the destruction in Gaza has made it difficult to provide humanitarian aid to the remaining Palestinian population. Despite calls from the United Nations, the international community, and the Biden administration for a cease-fire, the conflicting parties have not reached an agreement.

Palestinian Death Toll Surpasses 33,000

Palestinian deaths from the war have passed 33,200, with nearly 76,000 wounded, Gaza’s Health Ministry said. The ministry doesn’t differentiate between civilians and combatants in its tally but says women and children make up two-thirds of the dead.

The war began Oct. 7 when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking around 250 people hostage.

Before the U.N. Security Council’s recent resolution for a cease-fire during Ramadan, which passed due to the United States abstaining instead of vetoing, the survey revealed that 74% of U.S. adults were closely monitoring news about the Israeli-Hamas situation. This level of attention is similar to the figures observed in November.

Interestingly, disapproval of Israel’s military actions remains consistent regardless of the level of attention Americans pay to the conflict. However, those who are less engaged are more likely to have no opinion, leading to lower approval rates compared to those who are closely following the situation.
