Valley Children’s Healthcare and Topgolf broke ground Tuesday on a new entertainment venue at the Valley Children’s Hospital campus, marking the first major tenant in a planned mixed-use development.

Topgolf San Joaquin Valley will feature 72 climate-controlled hitting bays, a full-service restaurant and bar, an arcade, a patio, and a family-friendly miniature golf course. Construction is underway, with the venue expected to open in summer 2027.

The project is part of Valley Children’s plans for a broader development that will include retail, dining, hospitality, and entertainment offerings.

Thinking Differently About Sustaining ‘Our Mission,’ Says CEO

“We are celebrating Topgolf breaking ground here today and even more importantly, what this moment represents,” Valley Children’s Healthcare President and CEO Todd Suntrapak said. “Healthcare organizations across the country face significant challenges, and we have a responsibility to think differently about how we sustain our mission.”

Valley Children’s said the project marks Topgolf’s first partnership with a children’s hospital and will feature a design that is new to the company’s California locations.

“From the moment we visited Valley Children’s, we knew this was something special,” Topgolf CEO David McKillips said. “Topgolf exists to bring people together, and there’s no better partner for that mission than a hospital that’s spent decades doing exactly that for families across the Valley.”

William Chaltraw Jr., president and chief administrative officer of Valley Children’s Hospital, said families often travel hundreds of miles for specialized care and can spend days, weeks, or months away from home.

“This development is about creating a more welcoming experience for children, families and visitors, while continuing to invest in the community that supports them,” Chaltraw said.
