Clovis Police detectives arrested a part-time percussion coach at Buchanan High School on Friday on suspicion of unlawful sex with a minor, authorities said.

Police identified the suspect as Jacob Meier, 25, of Clovis. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on a felony charge of sex with a minor.

The investigation began after the parents of a former Buchanan High School student discovered inappropriate messages between their daughter and Meier on an old device and reported them to police, according to the department.

The victim graduated from Buchanan in June and is no longer a student at the school, police said.

Detectives served a search warrant at Meier’s home and collected additional evidence during his arrest. Police said investigators are still working to determine the timeline of the alleged crime.

Clovis Unified School District immediately fired Meier, who worked as a walk-on, part-time percussion coach, police said.

Authorities said there is currently no evidence that other minors were involved.

Clovis Unified and Buchanan High School are cooperating with the investigation, which remains open, police said.
