The woman fatally shot Sunday in a domestic violence-related incident has been identified as 38-year-old Brittney Moreno, a Merced County resident, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.
Officials said its Communications Center received multiple reports of a shooting about 11:30 a.m. in the area of Avenue 18 1/2 and Golden State Boulevard.
Deputies arrived and found Moreno suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel took over, and Moreno was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee toward Highway 99 in a small white SUV described as similar to a Toyota RAV4, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators identified the suspect as David Moreno, 51, and initially warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sheriff’s detectives later checked a possible address and saw Moreno leave in the same vehicle, officials said. The Madera County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, whose air unit and ground patrol assisted with stopping his vehicle.
David Moreno was arrested without incident, according to authorities.
