A driver was killed Monday morning after an Acura collided with a trailer carrying a modular classroom at an intersection in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 7:15 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Arnold Way.

CHP said a Peterbilt truck tractor hauling a modular classroom on a trailer was stopped westbound on Arnold Way. After waiting for southbound traffic to clear, the commercial driver entered the uncontrolled intersection and began making a left turn onto southbound Chestnut Avenue.

At the same time, an Acura TL was traveling northbound on Chestnut Avenue. For reasons that remain under investigation, the Acura struck the left rear portion of the trailer.

After the collision, the Acura traveled northeast into the parking lots of Red Triangle Oil Company and Flyers Filling Station before swerving back onto the roadway. The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lanes of Chestnut Avenue, partially on the center median south of Annadale Avenue.

The Acura driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The commercial truck driver was not injured, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, CHP said.

Authorities said alcohol or drugs are not suspected to have been factors in the crash.
