Kern County Fire Reaches Nearly 1,200 Acres, 50% Contained

A wildfire that started Wednesday near California City in Kern County had burned 1,196 acres and was 50% contained by Thursday morning, with evacuation orders and warnings lifted late Wednesday. (Calfire)

The Neuralia Fire burning near California City in Kern County grew to 1,196 acres and was 50% contained as of Thursday morning, according to a Calfire report.

The wildfire started Wednesday near Neuralia and Anne avenues in California City. The cause remains under investigation.

Fire officials said the blaze remains active under a unified command between the Kern County Fire Department and the Bureau of Land Management.

No structures have been reported threatened, damaged ,or destroyed, according to the latest incident update released at 7:49 a.m. Thursday. Authorities also reported no civilian or firefighter injuries or fatalities.

Evacuation orders and warnings issued Wednesday were lifted late Wednesday night, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office reported.
