Fraud artists often use tragic events to steal money.
And it’s happening right now, says Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.
On Friday, Boudreaux alerted the public to con men creating fake GoFundMe pages on the behalf of slain sheriff’s deputy Randy Hoppert’s family.
“Please know (that) Deputy Hoppert’s family has NOT authorized any GoFundMe Pages and is NOT benefiting at all from those donations,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “If you would like to donate to Deputy Hoppert’s family, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association has created a donation page where you can send money.”
