A Fresno County sheriff’s detective rescued six kittens from an attic crawl space at the department’s Area 3 substation in Selma, officials said.

Detective Solis of the Ag Task Force heard unusual meowing coming from the ceiling and investigated. He found five kittens under a loose board and coaxed them out, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

A faint sound led him to discover a sixth kitten trapped further back, which he also rescued.

Fresno Humane Animal Services responded to care for the hungry kittens. Authorities said their mother was later found dead.

The kittens are being nursed back to health and will be available for adoption.

Those interested in adopting can contact Fresno Humane Animal Services at (559) 600-7387 or visit 1510 West Dan Ronquillo Drive, Fresno.
