BUNT. and Malou dropped their new track “i need u” on Friday, with Arista Records giving GV Wire an advance listen.

The song doesn’t start with a bang — it starts with a whisper. A hypnotic one.

The song opens slowly, almost cautiously, with Malou repeating the same aching words again and again. “I need you.” Her voice is soft, but powerful. She sings like she is the one hurting, like every word is happening to her in real time.

There is a bassline underneath it all, subtle at first, gently pulling the listener in. You are intrigued immediately, not because the song gives you everything right away, but because it doesn’t. It makes you wait.

That repetition scratches an itch you did not even know you had.

Then the beat drops.

BUNT., Malou Takes You to Coachella Early

What initially feels like it might become a slow-burning, emotional dance track suddenly explodes into something euphoric. BUNT. takes Malou’s angelic vocals and crashes them into an explosive, festival-ready beat.

The bass hits hard, the tempo surges forward, and suddenly you are not sitting in your room anymore. You are in a crowd of thousands.

You are standing in the dust at Coachella, fighting the wind, hopping up and down with strangers as the beat rattles through the ground beneath you.

But just when the song feels at its biggest, BUNT. tears it all away.

Bass Takes a Back Seat, Malou Drives

Midway through the track, the bass disappears. The beat softens. The energy that had just moments ago made you want to throw your hands in the air suddenly leaves you standing alone in the middle of that imaginary festival field. The crowd is gone. It is just you and Malou.

That is where “i need u” is at its strongest.

Malou gets time to shine even more, and her voice fills the empty space. You stop focusing on the beat and start focusing on the lyrics. “In the night, I need you. In the night, I think of you. In the night, I call for you.” It becomes less about dancing and more about remembering. Missing someone. Wanting someone back. Falling in love. Living in the moment while simultaneously mourning it.

Makes You Think

The genius of the song is that it understands reflection does not have to stop the party. The beat begins to build back up, almost like all of those people you imagined disappearing are making their way back to the dance floor. The bass returns. The song becomes danceable again. But now you hear it differently. You are still moving, but you are carrying the weight of the lyrics with you.

“i need u” feels made for late-night summer runs, for walk-run training after a breakup, for those drives where you are trying not to text someone back. It has the big daytime spring energy of a festival anthem, but underneath it is something more vulnerable and human.

BUNT.’s breakout hit “Clouds” started at fuller speed before revealing itself as a breakup song. “i need u” does the opposite. It starts with heartbreak, builds toward hope, and then leaves you somewhere in between: full and empty at the same time.

The final message of the song is not just “I need you.”

It is: I love you, and you are not alone.
