President Donald Trump said Wednesday in a prime-time address that the U.S. is close to ending its war in Iran but warned that if a deal cannot be reached, the next two to three weeks could bring bombings that would reduce Iran’s power plants and possibly oil fields “back to the stone ages.”
Trump framed the campaign as a final strike to pressure Iran, while suggesting that nuclear sites hit by previous U.S. attacks remain under strict surveillance.
He claimed the U.S. has sought a ceasefire through mediators, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but said any obstruction could lead to further attacks.
Markets reacted sharply, with stock futures dropping and oil prices rising after the speech.
Trump emphasized his role in confronting Iran, arguing prior administrations failed to check the country’s nuclear ambitions.
