Local cinephiles will have an opportunity to view this year’s Academy Award-nominated short films before the Oscars, as Fresno Filmworks hosts its annual Oscar Shorts showcase this evening and Saturday.
The two-day event take places at the Old Administration Building at Fresno City College (1101 E. University Avenue), bringing a global celebration of cinema to the Central Valley.
The festival features nominees across the Academy’s three short film categories: Animated, Live Action, and Documentary. Rather than screening the films individually, organizers have grouped them by category. Each category is presented as its own distinct program and played straight through, offering audiences a traditional feature-length theater experience.
Screenings kick off Friday evening and continue through Saturday afternoon and evening, with a total of five programs scheduled across the two days.
Fresno Filmworks promotes the annual showcase as a chance for both longtime film fans and first-time attendees to discover emerging filmmakers and experience powerful storytelling from around the world on the big screen.
Due to adult language, mature themes, and sensual images across the nominated works, the festival programs are recommended for audiences 17 and older.
Attendees can purchase single-program tickets, day passes, or an early-bird All-Access Pass for $35, which grants entry to every screening throughout the weekend.
