A 72-year-old man was found dead inside his apartment earlier this month, and authorities have determined his death was a homicide, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Officers with the Central Policing District responded at about 1:59 p.m. on Feb. 12 to an apartment complex near First Street and Dayton Avenue to conduct a welfare check on Leon Conway after neighbors reported they had not seen or heard from him for several days.
Officers forced entry into the apartment and discovered Conway deceased inside.
Personnel from the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office assisted with the on-scene investigation. An autopsy later revealed Conway had sustained blunt force trauma to his body, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Detectives learned Conway lived alone but frequently allowed various individuals to come and go from his residence. Investigators believe he was involved in an argument with one of those individuals during which he was physically assaulted.
