The nation’s largest federal employee union is demanding a full independent investigation and bipartisan congressional oversight following the killing of Alex Pretti, a member of the American Federation of Government Employees, the organization said in a statement on Jan. 26.
AFGE National President Everett Kelley said the union honored Pretti, an ICU nurse at a VA hospital, alongside labor and faith leaders, and criticized Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller for their roles in the administration’s immigration policies.
Kelley accused Noem of slandering Pretti as a “domestic terrorist” and called for her and Miller to resign, saying their actions created the conditions leading to Pretti’s death.
AFGE said Noem’s leadership had undermined labor protections and public safety across DHS, including TSA and FEMA operations.
The union is pressing for a transparent third-party investigation to ensure accountability and restore public trust.
