The mayor of a town in the southern Philippines survived an apparent assassination attempt after a rocket-propelled grenade struck his armored vehicle, TMZ reports.

Video footage from Shariff Aguak municipality shows a white van stopping along a roadway in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Two men exit the vehicle and fire a rocket-propelled grenade at Mayor Akmad Ampatuan’s Toyota Land Cruiser.

The grenade exploded beneath the armored vehicle, producing a large fireball and heavy smoke. The vehicle was able to drive away from the scene.

Ampatuan was not injured, but two of his security guards suffered minor abdominal injuries, officials said.
