A Visalia school was briefly placed on lockdown Friday morning following a nearby police incident, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.

Just after 10 a.m., Visalia Police officers were called to the 1400 block of South Central Street for a disturbance involving a woman reported to be holding a knife and refusing to let it go.

Officers and crisis intervention teams remained on scene.

Divisidero School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but authorities later lifted it, saying there was no threat to the school. The incident was contained to an isolated area, police said.

Police asked the public to avoid the area while the situation was ongoing.
