Steady rain is expected to continue in Fresno through Monday night, the National Weather Service in Hanford says.

Since the storm began with a thunder-and-lightning display in Thursday’s wee hours, it had dropped about an inch of rain in the city through noon Friday.

However, some Fresno locations reported receiving as much as 1.25 inches.

The NWS forecast calls for up to a quarter-inch more through midnight, followed by steady rain through Monday evening. Before it exits the region, the storm could soak Fresno with more than two inches of rain.

Rain Thus Far in the Sierra

Webcams at Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake showed rain but no snow at midday Friday.

In northern California, Lake Tahoe reported wet snow at elevations above 8,000 feet. On Saturday, however, the snow level is expected to drop to 6,500 feet.

Motorists heading to Lake Tahoe are advised that travel through Donner Pass and Echo Summit may affected by slush and minor snow accumulation.

Wildfire on East Side of Sierra

A fast-moving wildfire raged across thousands of acres in Mono County near the Nevada border on Friday.

The Pack Fire, which started on scrubland Thursday, has burned 3,400 acres and damaged 15 structures, CalFire said.

The fire — 5% contained as of Friday — is burning about 15 miles from the Mammoth Lakes ski resort.

“The rain hasn’t yet put a dent in it, but it stopped it from spreading,” said Sgt. Brent Gillespie of the Mono County Sheriff’s Office.
