San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow shared two posts on X that linked the election of New York City’s first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani, to the 9/11 terror attacks, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The posts featured images of planes striking the World Trade Center and were originally shared by accounts known for anti-Islam or right-wing content.

When asked by the Tribune about the connection between Mamdani’s election and 9/11, Dow said the reposts were not endorsements and cited his service as a U.S. Army veteran who “remembers like it was yesterday” the attacks by Islamic extremists.

He also called Mamdani, a democratic socialist, “un-American.”

San Luis Obispo physician Dr. Rushdi Cader, a Muslim and a longtime friend of Dow, described the posts as “highly incendiary” but urged understanding, saying he believed Dow acted out of political disagreement rather than religious contempt.
