Fresno Police Investigate Fatal Shooting That Killed 24-Year-Old Man

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday evening during a gathering in southwest Fresno, police said.

Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. to the area of Poppy and California avenues, where they found Faustino Mancilla suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

Detectives said Mancilla had been attending a gathering at a residence when he got into an argument with another individual moments before the shooting. Investigators are still working to determine the motive and identify the suspect.

The killing marks Fresno’s 17th homicide of 2025, compared to 26 at this time last year, police said.
