Two people, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed and another person was seriously injured in a solo vehicle crash late Tuesday on Belmont Avenue west of Brawley Avenue, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said officers responded around 11:05 p.m. to find a vehicle that had left the roadway after traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.
The driver failed to stop at a stop sign, struck a power pole, several trees, fencing, and a parked vehicle before coming to rest in a trucking yard.
The 21-year-old woman driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old female passenger later died at a local hospital. A 27-year-old man who was also in the vehicle remains hospitalized with major injuries, CHP said.
Investigators said the driver and front passenger were wearing seat belts, but the rear passenger was not. Alcohol and drug use remain under investigation.
