The Fresno Police Department will have extra officers on patrol Saturday to target traffic violations involving drivers and motorcyclists, the agency said.
The enforcement operation will run from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and focus on common crash factors such as unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, impaired driving and unsafe lane changes.
Speeding is the leading cause, contributing to nearly a third of all motorcycle crashes statewide, police said.
Authorities offered safety reminders ahead of the operation, urging drivers to check mirrors and blind spots, use signals when changing lanes, and give motorcycles extra space.
Motorcyclists were encouraged to wear Department of Transportation compliant helmets and reflective gear, keep headlights on at all times and signal early before lane changes.
The operation is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
