The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 59-year-old Fresno man in connection with a 2016 Orange Cove homicide.

Basilio Rodriguez Jr. was booked into the Fresno County Jail on a murder charge, with bail set at $1 million, the agency said in a statement.

The case stems from an assault on Nov. 23, 2016, at the Orchard Village Apartment complex in Orange Cove.

Police found Angel Esquibel, 25, suffering from multiple injuries and transported him to Reedley Hospital, where he later died.

After Esquibel’s death was ruled a homicide, Orange Cove Police asked the sheriff’s homicide detectives to take over the investigation. Multiple people were interviewed at the time, but no arrests were made.

Authorities said new information recently came to light that led detectives to identify Rodriguez as the suspect.
