The Kings County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously voted to appoint Undersheriff Rick Bradford as the county’s next sheriff, effective Nov. 24, following the retirement of longtime Sheriff Dave Robinson.

Robinson, the county’s 15th sheriff, took office in 2011 after beginning his county service in 1995. He cited recent changes in state election law extending his current term to six years and health concerns as factors in his decision. He didn’t face an opponent in the 2022 election. The sheriff’s position will next be on the ballot in 2028.

Bradford has served as undersheriff for Kings County for several years, bringing decades of law enforcement experience and a focus on public safety.

Robinson is retiring after more than 30 years with the department, including serving as sheriff since 2011, during which time he helped advance gang task forces, SWAT operations, and statewide sheriff leadership efforts.

County officials thanked Robinson for his service and praised Bradford’s leadership as they prepare for the transition.
