Two people were arrested after deputies responding to reports of gunfire in Lamont early Saturday found shell casings scattered across a street and a front yard, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Deputies were called around 2:30 a.m. to the 8900 block of Jeffry Avenue, where they determined multiple men had been firing guns in the street, officials said.
A search warrant served at a nearby residence turned up three firearms, including one that was reported stolen, along with ammunition matching the casings found at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Celso Benigno, 37, was arrested on suspicion of illegally discharging a firearm, possessing a stolen firearm, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed, possessing a controlled substance, and giving false identification to an officer.
Deputies also arrested a male juvenile on suspicion of making criminal threats.
