San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner has been one of the best in the league at his position for a while now, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors four times in his six seasons, including in each of the last three years.
The third-round pick added another honor to his already full mantle in Week 3, as he was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome on Sunday. In the contest, Warner recorded a team-high 11 tackles (one for a loss), a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
This is the fourth time that Warner has received this honor in his career.
Warner’s forced fumble late in the third quarter was the 16th of his NFL career, tying him with Patrick Willis for the most forced fumbles in 49ers history.
Through two games, the 28-year-old has 19 tackles (two for a loss), one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He’s on pace to set a career-high in tackles (156), which would likely earn him All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the fifth time in his NFL career.
