The Fresno Police Department arrested 16 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence during an enforcement operation on Saturday.

Police said drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

Authorities said another DUI enforcement operation is planned for November, with additional patrols and checkpoints scheduled throughout the year to keep roadways safe.

Funding for the enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
