Fresno police will conduct DUI patrols Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of being under the influence.

Authorities reminded the public that impairment can come from alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana, and that driving high remains illegal even though marijuana is legal in California.

Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.

The patrols are funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
