A 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday after police said he stole alcohol, fired a gun and attempted a carjacking outside a Fresno supermarket.
The Fresno Police Department said officers responded at 9:23 a.m. to a robbery in progress at Vons on North Cedar Avenue.
Investigators said the teenager brandished a firearm at employees, then tried to carjack a vehicle in the parking lot.
Witnesses told officers the suspect fired a shot at the vehicle, which was able to drive away. The boy then ran into a nearby residential neighborhood.
A Fresno police sergeant who was in the parking lot at the time immediately responded, and additional officers quickly located the suspect.
Police said he was safely detained, and a firearm was recovered nearby.
The juvenile was booked into the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Campus.
