Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Selma that followed reports of gunfire late Saturday, authorities said on Sunday.
Shortly before 10 p.m., dispatchers received a report of shots fired near Highway 43 and East Nebraska Avenue, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A short time later, Selma police officers attempted to contact the occupant or occupants of a vehicle possibly connected to the call in the Walmart shopping center on East Floral Avenue.
During the encounter, a person fled from the vehicle and an officer fired their weapon, striking the suspect, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was transported by EMS to a hospital, where they were listed in fair condition, authorities said.
Selma police asked the Sheriff’s Office to take over the shooting investigation. Detectives are also continuing to investigate the initial shots fired report.
