Fresno police arrested 108 drivers suspected of driving under the influence during a nearly three-week enforcement period that included the Labor Day holiday.
The arrests were part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which increased patrols across the country to remove impaired drivers from the roads.
Among those arrested, 13 were cited for drug-impaired driving and four for a combination of alcohol and drugs, police said.
Fresno police conducted DUI checkpoints on Aug. 16 and 30 and a saturation patrol on Aug. 23, which together resulted in 39 DUI arrests.
4 DUI Deaths a Day in California
Drunk driving remains a significant traffic safety concern in California.
In 2023, alcohol-related crashes accounted for about a third of all traffic deaths in the state, or roughly four fatalities per day.
First-time DUI offenses carry an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, which may include a suspended license.
Police remind drivers that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from cannabis, illicit drugs, or even prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The enforcement effort was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
