High school football season is underway and local school districts are working to ensure student and guest safety with strong screening procedures.

The measures include screening attendees using metal detectors and wands alongside bag checks.

Items not allowed into football games include weapons of any kind — even for individuals with a concealed weapons permit. Additionally, guests should not bring drugs, alcoholic beverages, or any other items prohibited by the districts.

Clovis Unified School District

Clovis Unified has taken steps to enhance safety at their football stadiums, employing Evolv Express security screening stations at stadium entrances.

The quick, contactless safety screenings of people and bags mimic those at professional event venues and sports arenas. This will layer with protocols already in place while ensuring with little to no slowdown, the district said.

Attendees will walk between stations that use technology to identify and pinpoint potential safety threats.

Those found to have items not allowed into the stadiums will be asked to return the item to their vehicle or have them confiscated.

Students must bring a valid school ID and meet dress code.

Fresno Unified School District

Fresno Unified will have guests walk through metal detectors and, if applicable, have their bags checked.

The district encourages attendees to avoid bringing bags to speed up entry.

District stadiums prohibit tobacco products and lighters, outside food, and artificial noisemakers.

Guests are allowed to bring a drink that is factory-sealed in a plastic bottle or an empty, refillable cup. The district provides water refill stations inside stadiums.

Sanger Unified School District

Sanger Unified will screen all guests with handheld metal detectors and search bags upon entry.

There are law enforcement officers and paramedics present at all games.

All school administration is on duty at games, and two private security personnel monitor the perimeter.

“Our District has implemented a comprehensive set of safety measures designed to protect students, families, staff, and community members,” said district spokesperson Cary Catalano. “These protocols are in place to provide peace of mind so everyone can focus on cheering for their teams and enjoying the game day atmosphere.”

Student guests must present a valid ID through the district’s tech app, Minga, and are required to comply with dress code.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Central Unified School District

Central Unified will check bags and wand guests as they enter the stadium.

Once inside, CIS security will help the district monitor the crowd, and the Fresno Police Department will be on site before, during, and after the game.

Students — entering through a special gate — will go through the same procedure. Additionally, the district requires them to be in dress code and staff will check for discipline issues.
