Twelve people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a Fresno police checkpoint on Saturday, Aug. 16, authorities said.
The checkpoint was held at Wishon and Hedges avenues from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to the Fresno Police Department.
Officers cited 15 drivers for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license. In total, 271 vehicles were screened.
Police said DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on reports of impaired driving-related crashes.
The next enforcement effort, a DUI saturation patrol, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23.
Funding for the checkpoint came from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
