The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
Officials said the checkpoint locations are chosen based on crash data involving impaired driving, with the goal of removing suspected impaired drivers from the road and improving public safety.
Impairment can come from alcohol, certain prescription or over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana, police noted.
A first-time DUI conviction can cost about $13,500 in fines and penalties and result in a suspended license.
The operation is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
