Construction crews on Shaw Avenue and the Golden State Boulevard have nearly finished a temporary lane shift, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday, but a dangerous incident highlighted the risks workers face on the road.
CHP officials said an impaired driver, measured at more than three times the legal limit, ignored road closure signs, barriers, and detours, driving straight into an active work zone.
The decision put workers and equipment operators at risk, authorities said.
“Thankfully, we were there at the right time to stop them before a potential tragedy,” the CHP said in a social media post.
Officials reminded drivers to respect construction signs and detours while crews finish the project.
