A teenager riding an electric bicycle was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a collision with a pickup truck at a residential intersection in Clovis, police said.

Officers responded at 1:05 p.m. to Athens and Perry avenues where Clovis Fire and EMS treated the teen before they were taken to a local hospital, according to police.

The truck’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said alcohol or drug use was not suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation. Authorities note the scene is still active at the time of publication.

The Clovis Police Department is urging the community to use caution as students return to school. They remind bicyclists to follow the same rules as drivers and advise motorists to watch for increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic, especially before and after school.
