The Fresno County Democratic Party has passed a resolution calling for an end to the “genocide” in Gaza, saying its member can no longer ignore the level of death and destruction.

While acknowledging and mourning the Israeli lives lost in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack, the party believes Israel’s response is disproportionate.

“Israeli forces have targeted schools, hospitals, and food distribution sites, and have continued their blockade of aid and denied any starvation crisis even though health officials have reported 181 hunger-related deaths,” the resolution stated. “UNICEF has warned that a larger number of people, particularly children, are at risk of death due to severe malnutrition and related illnesses due to lack of food, clean water, and access to healthcare. Over 320,000 Palestinian children are at risk of acute malnutrition.”

Additionally, Israel has leveled cities, killed entire families, and caused an unimaginable number of mental and physical injuries to Palestinians of all ages, Fresno Democrats said.

They also condemned U.S. involvement in the war and funding of the Israeli government.

The party members passed the resolution Wednesday.

61,000 Palestinians Killed

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel plans to take complete control of Gaza.

“We intend to,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer when asked if Israel would take over the entire coastal territory. “We don’t want to keep it; we want to have a security perimeter.”

Israel possibly could give territory to Arab forces that would govern it, the prime minister said. There was no mention of which Arab nations might be involved.

Almost 61,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began and a hunger crisis has unfolded in Gaza.

Since the end of May, more than 1,2000 have been killed trying to access food supplies, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenča said on Tuesday.

In addition, about 12,000 children under age 5 in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition, and hunger-related deaths are rising, the director general of the World Health Organization said on Thursday. Health officials say that nearly 200 people have died of starvation, half of them children.

Fresno County Democrats Issue Call to Action

The local Democrats also called on their fellow party members to take a public stand and condemn the war.

In a statement, party members said said that they hope the California Democratic Party, the Democratic National Committee, and all elected Democrats will pressure the government to stop supplying Israel with weapons and funds “until the current hostilities cease and food and humanitarian aid are allowed to flow freely into Gaza.”
