A 62-year-old inmate died Sunday after collapsing at the South County Detention Facility in Tulare County, authorities said.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified just before 10 a.m. that the inmate was feeling sick.

While jail staff were speaking with him, he collapsed and lost consciousness.

Correctional and medical staff began life-saving efforts until fire and paramedic crews arrived. The inmate died shortly after.

The cause of death remains undetermined pending an autopsy, though investigators do not suspect foul play.

The inmate’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
