A fire that broke out just before noon Thursday on the 2300 block of South Minnewawa Avenue damaged a home and displaced three people, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Crews responded to multiple 911 calls reporting an outdoor fire spreading toward a residence. When firefighters arrived, they found the blaze had extended to the house.

The flames were contained to the back corner of the house and an adjacent room. Investigators determined the cause was spontaneous combustion involving oily rags.

One adult and two children were displaced by the fire, which caused significant damage to the home.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters successfully rescued three dogs, a chameleon, and a turtle.

Officials reminded residents to store oily or solvent-soaked rags in approved, fire-safe containers to prevent similar incidents.
