GV Wire’s Edward Smith talks with KMPH Fox 26 “Great Day” anchor Karl Cooke about a new Fresno ordinance that aims to restore vacant blighted properties.
The new ordinance requires property owners to maintain vacant buildings and bans boarded-up windows. City officials say they are working closely with vacant property owners who are actively seeking new tenants.
The ordinance specifically targets properties in Tower District, but if successful after a one-year pilot, the zone could expand city-wide.
Some property owners are pushing back, saying it’s impossible to maintain buildings and attract tenants because of problems created by homeless people.
