If the current weather pattern — influenced by cold air from Alaska sitting off the California coast — holds, Fresno will end July with just six triple-digit days. The early forecast for August calls for just three days of 100 degrees or more. (GV Wire Composite/Paul Marshall)

It’s obvious that at least one Fresno radio station relies on a weather announcer who resides out of the San Joaquin Valley.
How else do you explain Thursday’s morning’s forecast on Fox Sports AM 1340 of “another hot day” with a high of 91 degrees?
In the Valley, 91 isn’t hot. It’s balmy. Perfect for work, shopping, or a round of golf.
A high of 91 is so heavenly that Fresno’s overtaxed air conditioners rejoice and hum perfectly when they click on.
Question is, how low will Fresno residents enjoy this resort-like respite from summer’s customary triple-digit assault on body and mind?
If the current weather pattern — influenced by cold air from Alaska sitting off the California coast — holds, we will end July with just six triple-digit days.
Fresno had 26 triple-digit days last year, according to National Weather Service records. In addition, the Valley baked under two different Excessive Heat Warnings totaling 11 days.
Forecast Calls for a Sublime August
So, what’s ahead in August?
Cue the trumpets and applause sign!
The Weather Channel’s August forecast calls for just three days of 100 degrees or more. These are expected Aug. 5-7 with the highest day pegged at 103 degrees.
What about September?
Put away your ice packs. At this point, there isn’t a single triple-digit September day in The Weather Channel’s crystal ball. And every day past Sept. 20 is forecast below 90 degrees. For the record, summer officially ends on Sept. 22.
Will This Be One for the Record Books?
However, weather and people have common qualities: fickle, unpredictable, and subject to change without notice.
For now, anyway, if someone asks, “How long is this great weather going to last?” tell them, “You might be surprised.”
This is shaping up as a long cool summer for the Fresno record books. One to tell your grandkids about on a future 110-degree day.
