Construction at the Hurley Avenue intersection on Shirk Street is scheduled to begin Monday, July 28, as part of Visalia’s Shirk Capacity Enhancement Project, city officials announced.

The current phase, known as Phase 2B, includes roadway widening and the installation of a 48-inch mainline sanitary sewer, storm drain lines, and additional concrete and electrical improvements.

The work zone spans from School Avenue to Hurley Avenue, with a full closure of Shirk Street between Hillsdale Avenue and Pershing Avenue.

Traffic Restricted, Detours Marked

Both northbound and southbound traffic will be restricted at the Hurley Avenue intersection.

Detours will be marked at Goshen Avenue, Plaza Drive, Akers Street, Hillsdale Avenue, and Highway 198.

Residents, employees, and visitors to businesses on Shirk Street will still be able to access the area, though officials urge travelers to use caution and slow down in the construction zone.

Work on this portion of the project is expected to wrap up by Friday, Aug. 8.
