A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on Wednesday afternoon, but officials say there is no tsunami threat to California.

The U.S. National Weather Service reported the magnitude 7.3 quake occurred around 1:35 p.m. off the remote island chain.

Despite the size of the earthquake, the agency confirmed there would be no impacts to northwest California.
