A 3-year-old child died Sunday after drowning in a backyard pool in Porterville, authorities said.

According to the Porterville Police Department, officers responded along with Porterville Fire Department and ambulance personnel to a home in the city for reports of a possible drowning.

Investigators determined the child had entered the backyard undetected and fell into the pool.

Despite life-saving efforts, the child could not be revived.

Porterville Police Department detectives are investigating the incident.
