Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with two random violent assaults that left a 73-year-old man critically injured and another man hospitalized, Fresno police said.

The attacks happened the morning of June 30. Officers from the Central Policing District responded at 6:29 a.m. to Quigley Park, where they found a 73-year-old man who had been severely beaten.

Witnesses told police that six young males exited two vehicles, attacked the man, and fled. The victim suffered a brain bleed and was rushed into surgery. He remains in recovery, authorities said.

Just 17 minutes later, a similar attack occurred about seven miles away.

Officers from the Northwest Policing District responded at 6:46 a.m. to the area of Weber and Brown avenues, where six suspects matching the same description assaulted a 40-year-old man.

He was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police later recovered the two vehicles used in the assaults and determined both had been reported stolen.

Detectives from the Felony Assault Unit, Elder Abuse Unit, and Career Criminal Auto Theft Team identified the six suspects — all boys, two aged 13 and four aged 15 — who are also believed to be involved in multiple auto thefts.

As of Monday, all six juveniles had been arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and multiple vehicle theft charges.
