A stranded Sierra hiker was rescued by helicopter after activating a distress signal along the Pacific Crest Trail northwest of Rosamond, authorities said.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified by the California Office of Emergency Services around 8:15 p.m. on June 30 of an emergency beacon alert from a Garmin InReach device.
Search and rescue crews, along with the sheriff’s Air 1 helicopter, responded to the area.
The hiker was found on a steep slope just off the trail, unable to climb back due to an ankle injury and unstable, loose rock that increased the risk of sliding.
Air 1 successfully landed near the site, and the hiker was transported to the Search and Rescue command post for medical evaluation.
Officials urge hikers to carry emergency communication gear and remain cautious of trail conditions.
