An 86-year-old Fresno woman was killed Monday in a head-on collision in southeast Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Mary Bonds, 86, of Fresno, on Wednesday.
The crash happened at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Butler Avenue, west of Fowler Avenue, in the unincorporated area of the county.
CHP officials said Bonds was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound on Butler when, for reasons still under investigation, her vehicle veered into the westbound lane and collided with an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 20-year-old Fresno woman.
The driver of the Silverado was unable to avoid the crash, and the two vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane. Bonds was pronounced dead at the scene.
No injuries were reported among the occupants of the Chevrolet.
Authorities said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
