A traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Fresno County led to the seizure of roughly $250,000 worth of cocaine and the arrest of a driver on multiple drug charges, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The stop happened around 3:44 p.m. on Sunday when a Central Division California Highway Patrol canine sergeant pulled over a 2018 Toyota Yaris iA for a traffic violation on northbound I-5 at Nees Avenue, officials said.

During the stop, the sergeant observed indicators that suggested potential criminal activity.

CHP’s canine partner, Shei, was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle uncovered about one pound of cocaine concealed in the dashboard above the glove box, along with an additional five pounds hidden in a void behind the driver’s seat, according to CHP.

The driver, who was not identified, was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.

The suspect faces charges of possession of cocaine for sale and transportation of cocaine across noncontiguous counties, authorities said.
