Fire Breaks Out at Valero Benicia Refinery, Residents Urged to Stay Indoors

Update on May 5, 2025, at 11:15 a.m.

The Benicia Fire Department said that the Benicia Valero Refinery was brought under control at 10:38 a.m. Monday, prompting officials to lift a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.

Emergency crews will remain at the scene to assist with cleanup.

The Benicia Fire Department reported that the Fairfield Fire Department, Vallejo Fire Department, and Contra Costa County Fire are currently responding to the blaze.

Fire officials say that there are no injuries reported at this time.

Fire crews are responding to an active fire on Monday at the Benicia Valero Refinery, authorities said.

Residents who can see or smell smoke are advised to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed, the Benicia Fire Department said.

Officials urged the public not to call 911 unless they are experiencing an emergency.

The refinery has a capacity of 145,000 barrels per day, Reuters reported.
